Scott + Reid, a full-service commercial
construction company specializing in interior finish and ground-up
construction, announced completion of the med fusion,
llc. global headquarters in Lewisville, Texas. A highly
unique and fast-paced project, the 172,000
square-foot building was converted to a high quality,
state of the art pathology office and clinical laboratory in just
five months.
"We are excited about the partnership we built with med fusion
and to announce the completion of such a needed, revolutionary
facility," said Scott + Reid President Brad Reid. "This was a truly
unique project and Scott + Reid's experience in reconfiguring
existing buildings was critical to the successful completion of
this project for this medical pioneer."
Baylor Health Care System, Texas Oncology PA,
Pathologists Biomedical Laboratories LLP and US
Oncology joined together to create med fusion (originally
called 'NewCo'), which will integrate advanced laboratory services
and clinical trials services. Following construction completion,
150 employees moved into the building, representing 100 new jobs
for the area. By 2014, med fusion plans to hire 900 employees.
The $12,000,000 construction project included
new mechanical systems with high tech, automated controls,
low-temperature walk-in refrigeration units, modernization of
existing plumbing to accommodate new laboratory systems, data room
infrastructure, and new office space. The clinical areas were
finished out as a biosafety level 3 lab, clean room lab, biopsy
review lab, research and development lab, and clinical trial area.
In addition, Scott + Reid was responsible for reconfiguring the
building with a distinctive architectural composite metal panel
system façade, additional glass curtainwall and significant
structural modifications. Extensive site work, development of
ADA-compliant parking and entrance, and the installation of
multiple water features and customized landscaping completed the
comprehensive re-model project.
Scott + Reid was hired in November 2009 to convert the
ConVergence Office Center located at 2501 State
Highway 121 in Lewisville, which was first constructed in 1980 and
previously served as an artillery development and production
facility.
"From the very beginning of our partnership, we put a great deal
of confidence in Scott + Reid's ability to work with us to ensure a
smooth construction process," said Keith Laughman, med fusion CEO.
"This was a highly technical and complex project, and Scott +
Reid's knowledge and experience were critical to the success of the
project. They delivered timely results and a top quality finished
product."
Prior to construction start, Scott + Reid was instrumental in
assisting with design development, partnering with the client (med
fusion, llc.), construction manager (CB Richard Ellis, Inc.),
architect (RSP Architects) and engineers (Sebesta Blomberg) to
design and finalize construction documents.
"Scott + Reid is excited to have played a part in such a
successful project," Reid added. "med fusion is bringing a new
standard of quality to patient care in North Texas with its
advanced laboratory and clinical trials services."
