Scott + Reid General Contractors, Inc., a full-service
commercial construction company specializing in interior finish and
ground-up construction, announces the completion of the Caris Life
Sciences (Caris) headquarters in Irving, Texas. The 172,000
square-foot building was converted from commercial office space to
a corporate headquarters, and features a 27,000 square-foot
laboratory.

The multi-million dollar conversion included the renovation of a
three-story atrium, several large training and break-out meeting
rooms, a new shipping/receiving loading dock, extensive
modifications to the existing parking structure, additional
elevators, and high-end finishes throughout the facility. Caris
finalized its move into the new facility on February 5, 2010 where
it will employ more than 700 at full capacity.
"After partnering with Caris on several smaller projects over
the years, we were thrilled to be chosen to finish out the
company's new headquarters," said Brad Reid, Scott + Reid
President. "Our methodology of fully communicating with the client
each step of the way - from site selection assistance and
preliminary pricing to final completion was critical to create a
facility as unique and complex as this."
The building located at 6655 N. MacArthur Boulevard in Irving
was first constructed in 1998 as commercial office space. In March
2008, Scott + Reid partnered with Caris and began assisting them
with the conceptual design and preliminary budgeting for their new
corporate headquarters. Eight months later, it was hired to convert
the building into a laboratory and corporate headquarters. Scott +
Reid has previously worked on several projects for the
academic-caliber anatomic pathology and molecular diagnostics
services company including a complete remodel of the client's
billing operations center in Garland, as well as multiple
remodels of its office facilities and laboratories.
"When Caris began the search for a new corporate headquarters
more than a year and a half ago, we had already experienced more
than four years of building and construction with Scott + Reid,
through multiple modifications to our former Irving facility as
well as expansion and revisions to our laboratories and
offices near Boston and Phoenix. These projects were conceived,
designed, constructed, and completed to meet our high standards,"
said Joe Ellison, Senior Vice President, Human Resources at Caris
Life Sciences. The predictability Scott + Reid provided allowed us
to serve our clients and their patients in a seamless manner, while
undergoing major construction projects."
"Certainly, we were aware of the successful work Scott + Reid
had performed for other laboratories in the previous 10 years, not
the least among them Children's Hospital and Reata Pharmaceuticals,
but we also knew about the cutting-edge design and construction
work completed for First American and Dean Foods; the look and feel
of those projects was compelling," said Carol Duncan, Director of
Human Resources at Caris. "We appreciated their willingness to work
with us through a complex design and approval process, and we had
the confidence that Scott + Reid would deliver a beautiful
building. We have realized that vision."
"Scott + Reid's corporate culture is an unfailing commitment to
quality work, honesty, integrity, dependability and serving the
client's every need … all you do is tell them what you need, and
you can consider it done," added Dave McGlashan, Caris' Director,
Facilities and Real Estate.
"We'd like to congratulate Caris on its new headquarters," Reid
said. "With its life-changing diagnostic services, we believe the
company offers an unyielding standard of excellence among companies
in Dallas/Ft. Worth."
Scott + Reid in the News

Scott + Reid has partnered with two of the best real estate
deals in 2009. The Dallas Business Journals' 18th annual Best
Real Estate Deals dinner party was held on Wednesday, February 24th
at Union Station. Among the winners unveiled were two of
Scott + Reid's current projects, Dean Foods and NewCo. "We
are honored to be partnered with each of these company's on such
highly recognizeable projects," said Chris Scott, CEO of Scott +
Reid.
Best Office Deal: Dean Foods
According to the Dallas Business Journal, "When Dallas-based
convenience store giant 7-Eleven moved its corporate headquarters
to One Arts Plaza in downtown Dallas in 2007, it emptied more than
10 floors of the Tower at Cityplace, leaving the iconic building
along North Central Expressway with a 56% ocupancy rate. Around the
same time, Dallas-based Dean Foods Co., a milk and dairy company
with national brands such as Horizon Organic Dairy products and
Silk Soymilk, was looking to expand its Uptown office. Cityplace
turned out to be a perfect fit. The company signed a 240,000
square-foot lease in the building in June, but before the end of
the year it expanded its space to 325,000 square feet. In doing so,
Dean Foods raised occupancy at Cityplace to 90%. Dean Foods
will occupy floors 32 through 41."
Best Headquarters or Corporate Campus Move:
NewCo
According to the Dallas Business Journal, "In late 2008, a joint
venture between health care providers began looking for the right
space for a new molecular testing laboratory focused on better ways
to treat cancer. By late 2009, the partnership among Baylor
Health Care System, Pathologists Biomedical Laboratories LLP, Texas
Oncoloy and US Oncology has leased 172,475 square feet of office
and laboratory space at the Convergence Office Center at 2501 S.
State Highway 121 in Lewisville, in a deal that's likely to grow as
the new venture does. For now, the joint venture is going by
the temporary name of "NewCo," while branding efforts are under
way... The NewCo projct will require extensive renovations,
including the redesign and modification of two smaller buildings
into one large one, Johnson said. It also involves
construction of a new roof. The renovations began in late
November, and employees will begin moving into the space this
spring."
