Scott + Reid’s Greenhill Project Wins AIA Design Award

Scott + Reid is honored to announce our Greenhill School project was just named the winner of the AIA (American Institute of Architects) Philadelphia Design Award. Each year, AIA Philadelphia presents a number of awards honoring the individuals that help shape the industry of architecture and design as well as celebrating esteemed firms in their annual Design Awards competition. AIA is the largest and most influential network of architects and design professionals (98,000+) who share a passion for design, a desire to change the world, and have a commitment to the highest standards of practice.

Greenhill School, a distinguished educational facility in Addison, Texas, partnered with Scott + Reid for the ground-up construction of the Valdes STEM + Innovation Center for math and science departments from grades 5 to 12. The 58,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility includes robotics labs, science labs with gas turrets for experiments, production studios, and much more.

The building, by architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (Philadelphia), was recently featured for its cutting-edge sustainable design in Architecture Review – who called it “a winning formula.” Not only were materials chosen due to their sustainable features, but design elements were selected in order to demonstrate the science of the building and the inner workings of its components.

“We wanted the building to be a teaching tool itself,” says Kendra Grace, the associate head of school. “That’s why you have the exposed ductwork and why everything is labeled, so that the kids can understand where the hot and cold water come from.”
